Blogger it would appear has chewed them up and spat them out somewhere. Or perhaps they never made the trip through the big bad interweb between my PC the blog-posty-server- thingies.

Or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recent grief my (not so) ISP has been dishing out. I'm with the "ISP formerly known as NTHell" and the supply of their "service" has been degrading for a while now, so much so that watching the TV became a practice not to dissimilar to watching a strobe-ascope thingy. More blank spaces than a thing full of blank spaces. And, my interweb connection has been non existent for the best part of 3 weeks, to the tune of barely being able to load the iGoogle home page before having to reboot the cable modem.

Needless to say the TV box and modem have now been replaced (eventually) and some semblance of service has resumed, also the local main node amplifier has been replaced (apparently) as that had borked as well (30 some odd calls for service from the local area in the space of 2 days).

Interestingly, I observed a new engineering technique yesterday, well, new to digital TV & interweb provision at least. Percussive maintenance. The engineer was knocking seven shades of stuff out of the streets node box thing, and I mean really belting it. For like 10 minutes. For no apparent reason. I had a look at it this morning when I went past and it looks like someone has ram raided it.Kevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-12605376147059618592007-05-13T12:01:00.000+01:002007-05-13T12:20:46.216+01:00Excellent news for the PhantomsPress release revealing excellent news for the Phantoms for the 07-08 season. Sees the return of the Gough, Foremsky, Archer attack sqaud and Hutchinson on defence. This is added to Buckman and Peacock who signed last month.

Also signed is Dwayne Newman as player/coach (currently at MK Lightning) a real force to reckoned with (and former Peterborough team member).

Official Page HERE

"The Peterborough Phantoms are delighted to announce the signature of Dwayne Newman as Player Coach for the coming season, Dwayne will take on the Head Coaches role and his experience and obvious qualities were apparent from the outset of negotiations. His desire to be successful and steer our clubs attack for silverware is a challenge he is relishing.

Peterborough Phantoms are also delighted to announce the return of Taras Foremsky, Brent Gough, James Hutchinson and James Archer for the 2007-2008 campaign.

These are quality players that the club is proud to have secured. Taras, Brent, and Hutch all agreed deals immediately after the EPL Play-Off Finals at Coventry, prior to returning home and their loyalty, commitment and affiliation with our club is refreshing. Many clubs were attracted to these players and their only conversation regarding the coming season was with ourselves, such was their desire to return and continue the relationship with our club and its supporters.

As leading scorer last season Taras returns with a desire to not only defend that achievement but help drive our team towards a challenge for honours. Brent Gough formed an outstanding partnership with Foremsky and we are excited that we can see that build further next season. James Hutchinson's contribution when he joined the team was massive and we are delighted he will once again influence from our blue line.

James Archer is one of the best prospect players in the UK. He returns to the team amid interest from several clubs and once again his loyalty and commitment to this club is strong and his skills and scoring presence will
again be on show.

These signings are added to that of Lewis Buckman and Craig Peacock.

We hope all these signings indicate our desire to move our club forward on the foundations of the 2006-2007 season. The club is also hopeful further exciting additions to our 07-08 players and staff will follow over the next few days and weeks.

Jon Kynaston/Phil Wing/Rob Housden"Kevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-44135528688807987172007-05-09T21:26:00.000+01:002007-05-09T21:37:19.313+01:00Pants.And that's putting it politely.

Had a bit of a mains power blip (OK, rather huge power dropout) about 10 days ago whilst I was in the middle of doing stuff on my PC. So, saving my work, performed a backup of my important stuff and commenced with the diagnosis & "fixing" of my 'pooter.

And in doing so, windows XP not only broke itself, by my Linux install too. Thank you very bloody much windows XP. I hate you even more now than I did before (why the bloody thing decided to trash itself & everything else is any body's guess. Stupid thing. Come on, sensible answer please. Do our scruffy equine friends have different years to us? Do they experience time differently to the rest of the world? Well it is. And the fans join in too. Quite amusing to see who has the most testosterone in their system (the hormone that i've been lead to believe is responsible for hair growth - please feel free to correct me!). Some of them are right hairy, others (the younger guys), have not much more than a bit of bum-fluff (for want of a better description).

As for the fans? Well, we're all a bunch of hairy oiks anyway, its hard to tell the difference. Actually, before I get hunted down and battered, Phantoms fans are a great bunch of guys and gals and not that hairy at all! A number of fans however, are joining in with the hairy thing. Before you ask, yes, me too. Unfortunatley I had to shave twice in the last 3 weeks as I had an interview/meeting type thing and then my friends wedding (and although she probably would have sighed and rolled her eyes and said trust me to look like Chewbacca, i felt obliged to de-fur my visage).

In the intervening periods however, I have grown approximately 3cm of facial fur, which, if it has grown continually without my intervention would result in me looking not too dissimilar to Brian Blessed.

Today? I'm suitably hirsute. Will I be shaving before the end of the weekend? We'll see how things go shall we? ;-)

Oh, one final thing: GO PHANTOMS!!!!!!!

Technorati Tags: Brian Blessed, Hairy Ice Hockey,Peterborough Phantoms,Ice HockeyKevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-38639033222641369492007-04-10T20:43:00.000+01:002007-04-10T21:36:45.141+01:00Ahh well, 5 out of 6 aint bad.The Phantoms pipped the Wildcats at the post on Saturday with a 5-4 win at the Wildcats' home ice (scored 24 seconds from time by #76 - Taras Foremsky) making it 10 points from 10 in the playoffs.

Whilst the Phantoms were doing their thang, I was in the process of eating vast amounts of food, talking cobblers to random people who stood still for too long, making slightly more sense to various friends and acquaintances and imbibing significant volumes of alcohol. Yes, you guessed correct, I was at the wedding of my friend. A splendid event it was too. Great weather, good company and the day went swimmingly (at least from the perspective of a guest!). The bride looked fab, her dress suited her 100% and the groom, well, he scrubs up well! ;-) Lets hope they have a great honeymoon.

Then on Sunday, after a typical holiday Sunday drive (shed loads of traffic, shed loads of road works, sorry, traffic cone infestations - couldn't see a scrap of work going on and the obligatory squadron of suicide jockeys behind the wheels of more cars than I care to think about - if you insist on driving right on my tail be aware I will give you a mouthful of abuse as you go past, yes you in the "off road barge" BMW X5, we all know you are compensating for lack of development in certain parts of your anatomy). Where was I? Oh yes....

Drove home on Sunday in time for the final home game of the playoffs/season against the Slough Jets. I'll say now I didn't know what to expect from this match.

The ending first, a 9-3 drubbing by the Jets. However, this wasn't entirely unexpected or indeed upsetting, seeing as the guys had already qualified for the play off finals. The Jets, where credit is due, played like absolute manic demons, with flames all but shooting from their blades. You see, they had to win in order to preserve the possibility of qualifying for the finals. This did rest on the fact that the Scimitars had to loose in their game.

The Phantoms held their main players back a fair amount, in order to (wisely) protect against injury, especially when the (in)famous Chinn was in the opposing team. He lived up to his reputation and needlessly attacked Foremsky late in the 3rd and that was the signal for all hell to break loose. Plenty of fisticuffs, pointing & shouting and what have you, and that was just the two sets of Fans!! ;-)

In the end though, it was all for naught. The Scimitars had won their game 5-2 and qualified for the finals leaving the Jets high and dry despite a thoroughly impressive game (as the news spread through the crowd there were cries of "Go Scimitars!" and "Come on Sheffield!" a bit mean I know, but there you have it).

I believe that even if the Phantoms had been out to win the game they would have had their hands full and might well have lost anyway. As it was, it was really a case of seeing what they could do without getting injured as next week is the final in Coventry.

Still, entertaining none the less and 10/10 to the Jets fans and their support for their team, quite a noisy bunch the lot of them! Special recognition goes to the pom-pom shaking trio/quartet on the back row who provided a evening of entertainment!

:-)

And to end the evening, I got me shirt signed by a handful of the forwards, Taras being one of them. A picture will follow shortly (I know, exciting aint it??) ;-)

Fingers crossed for the weekend, the Phantoms could get themselves some hard earned silverware. Their semi is against the league champions Bracknell Bees, a very tough game indeed. However, Phantoms have beaten them before and they are still one of the form teams at the tail end of the season and during the playoffs.

GO PHANTOMS!!!

Technorati Tags: Peterborough Phantoms,Sheffield Scimitars,Slough Jets, Bracknell Bees,Ice Hockey,Play Offs,Go Phantoms!Kevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-27768997704657240282007-04-03T14:12:00.000+01:002007-04-03T14:55:24.830+01:00EPL Play Off Finals, Coventry, 14-15th April 2007Well, the Phantoms will be at Coventry, baring weird & wonderful mathematical happenings in their playoff group this weekend. However, they are currently the group form team (with 4 wins from 4 so far) so the others will be out gunning for them more than usual as they want to make it to Coventry too.

At Coventry, it'll be the Semis played on the Saturday followed by the Final on the Sunday.

A little bonus after the match I got my shirt signed by the D-Men : #8 Andrew Munroe, #13 Nick Compton, #19 Shaun Wyer, #22 Robert Ferrara, #23 Antti Kohvakka, #26 Julian Smith, #27 James Hutchinson, and #45 Gregg Rockman (net minder). My cousin who is my hockey buddy got her cap signed too!

Next week its the turn of the Forward guys, so I hope to get a few more scribbles. Hopefully that'll include #76 Taras Foremsky, the shirt I wear (I know, I know, I'm sad, you don't have to tell me!)

For those of you who are are even remotely awake still, here is a pic of the shirt.

I can't make next Saturday's away game, I'm at the wedding of one of my friends, however, I will be zooming back with haste on Sunday to make the final home game of the play offs and of this season effectively (not counting the play off finals in Coventry of course) and I already have my ticket. :-)

Technorati Tags: Peterborough Phantoms, Ice Hockey,Play Offs,Go Phantoms!Kevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-12769149023807091202007-04-01T23:26:00.000+01:002007-04-01T23:32:30.932+01:00Go Phantoms!Coventry Here We Come!

A truly splendid 4 from 4 so far with 2 games left in the play offs - a trip to Coventry for the finals is on the cards.

Smashed Sheffield Scimitars away and at home last weekend (2-1 win and then 7-2 win). Bashed Slough Jets last night away - a 4-2 win and walloped Swindon Wildcats tonight at home 7-3. Still, a good result and helps push towards the playoffs.

This was on top of a 7-4 victory against Slough Jets on Wednesday evening (a re-arranged match from the tail end of 2006). Again, speaking to people who made it to the match, it was another good one, apart from Darren McKague (#81) getting a puck in the face and sustaining fractures to his jaw requiring a pile of stitching and his jaw wiring up. Eeek. He is expected to be out for maybe 4 weeks or so. Lets hope he has a speedy recovery.

This makes a 5 match winning run, which is great for the team and progression towards the playoffs.

Sunday night. Tonight in fact. A big game indeed, Phantoms at home to the Sheffield Scimitars, currently second in the league and pegged to possibly win it this year.

A game that featured a Black Sabbath tribute band - Fozzy Gizzbourne, who entertained us in the intermissions and provided an alternative (and rousing!) version of the national anthem.

A game the featured a Giant skating SubWay sub (no I didn't imagine it) and a lady who nearly got scalped by the puck.

It was going to be a tough game right from the start, the Scimitars being a hard hitting, fast moving team who the Phantoms often struggle against.

However, the guys came out firing on all cylinders and really took the game to the lads from Sheffield, so much so, only 2 minutes into the first period Adam Reynolds (#44) slipped one past the giant (yet extremely acrobatic) Scimitar's' net minder to put the Phantoms 1-0 up. Needless to say the crowd went wild (to coin a phrase).

The lead lasted for another 5 or 6 minutes when Sheffield monstered their way past the net minder to make it 1-1. For the remainder of the period, it was end to end stuff with the Scimitars looking slightly stronger.

Second period. Both teams came back out looking to get one up on the other, with both teams blasting the puck (and themselves) around the ice like demons possessed. It was looking to be a dead period goal wise when the Phantoms made a break and it was #76, Taras Foremsky's turn to bag a goal on his own rebound off the Scimitars' net minder (this guy was leaping around like a gazelle to stop the puck despite wearing close to 1/2 a ton of padding a assorted gear, truly astonishing!).

The teams came back to the ice for the 3rd and final period with the Phantoms 1 goal ahead and, if anything, the action intensified. The action wasn't the only thing that went up, so did the noise. 8-10 minutes from time the Barmy Army fired up the big drums and the crowd stomped, clapped and yelled solidly for the remainder of the period. At one point, the Phantoms had 2 men off the ice yet still the Scimitars couldn't get past the defence and net minder (who all seemed to be everywhere at once).

Back to full strength the pace picked up yet again, with both teams furiously attacking and defending and the noise from the crowd was shaking the rink. 2 minutes to go and everyone was on the edge of their seats and the Scimitars still kept battering the defence.

90 seconds, the Phantoms cleared the puck from their end.

60 seconds, more rapid defence required.

30 seconds and they cleared the puck again. Every Phantom fan in the rink was willing the clock to be at zero.

15 seconds to go, Phantoms kill a few seconds behind their net as they prepare to advance. They move forward, the clock drops below 10 seconds, the puck is in the other half and the Scimitars pick it up and attack.

2 seconds, defence moves in.

1 second, the defence seems solid.

0.

We won! The crowd explode and the team look absolutely ecstatic (I didn't see any cartwheels but I'm sure there were some who were tempted to).

6 games in a row won, the 2nd highest team in the league beaten in a game to be remembered for a while. All in all a good weekend for the Phantoms.

Technorati Tags: Peterborough Phantoms, Sheffield Scimitars,Telford Tigers,Slough Jets,Ice HockeyKevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-87489179514918479962007-02-26T20:58:00.000Z2007-02-26T21:03:00.833ZHot Fuzz.Hot Fuzz.

See it.

Go on, you know you want to.

Technorati Tags: Hot Fuzz, Movie,Hilarious,Simon Pegg,Nick FrostKevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-45697999544634747692007-02-11T21:47:00.000Z2007-02-11T22:23:26.824ZIts been a while....Just for a change eh?

Speaking of changes, i'm no longer working in London (yay me), it wasn't what I expected/wanted so I voted with my feet so to speak. More on that as and when there is more I suppose.

However, back to the important stuff, Ice Hockey.

Went last weekend to the Phantoms home game against Chelmsford Chieftains (Chelmsford Cheaters - but of course i'm a little bit biased). Not overly inspiring, with goals scored and not given as well as goals not scored and given. Result, a 5-2 loss to the Phantoms (the real score should have been 4-3 given the random awarding & denial of goals. Suffice to say they didn't impress and spent most of the time skating away from the puck rather than towards it, and when they were in possession they promptly passed it off to the opposition. Nice of them wouldn't you say? I did get to chat to the mum of one of the Phantoms - I won't say which - but she was a bit down about how they were playing, along with the rest of us.

Then on the sunday they played away at the Cheiftains and lost 6-5. I can imagine the guys gt a bit of a talking to from their boss and it seems to have worked, for how long I can't say but last night they battered MK Lightning 6-0 in a game I wish I had seen as is sounded like a real blinder. The only problem is that we can't seem to beat them on our own ice - still, i'm sure we will, its only a matter of time.

Then came tonights game against bottom of the league Wightlink Raiders. They have been having a number of problems and disruptions to the team but that doesn't mean we can't take it easy, just a couple of goals can be a nightmare to get back from. However, the Phantoms really did play (mostly) good passing game with plenty of movement to give a sterling reault of 12-1. Stunning performance. Unlike the Raiders' number 26. Who, with the 12th goal scored by Dean Tonks and 18 seconds left on the clock, decided to try and blitz him [Tonks] hammering him into the side wall, for no other reason other than, well, he was not on his team. 5 mnuutes later following a flurry of blows to Tonks, being dropped to the floor and then sat on by one of the linesmen, then dragged off the ice by the ref and linesman and sent to the changing room to cool his jets to the accompanyment of a chorus of booing (but not before he lobbed his water bottle at the object of his attention), one of his team mates (yes you number 27, you toe-rag you) tried it on with another of the Phantoms and was also told he was a nughty boy.

All good fun, some good hockey played, a stonking score and even some proper fisticuffs too! :-)Kevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-69818718648621431972006-12-31T18:14:00.000Z2006-12-31T18:34:04.747ZToodle Pip 2006..... well hello there 2007......Well, I've managed to survive the trials of Christmas (did you know that Christmas is the second most stressful time after weddings? Its true, think about it...).

Its been odd this year, very non-festive and lacking in real seasonal attributes. I blame it on the weather myself, its not Christmas unless its cold. Fog, wind and rain do not count. Nor does lack of sun. Its also partly due to the fact that Christmas now apparently starts in August which I find highly annoying (OK, I'll stop my rant there, I'm sure you've heard it all before).

I can't see the new year festivities coming to much given that it is absolutely chucking it down and blowing a serious gale out there. There are bound to be some crazies out there braving the elements, I however, am staying in and if i am awake to see the clocks turn past midnight I will be very surprised.

Making any resolutions?? I'm not, I can't be bothered to be honest. And how many of you are going on a diet? I won't be as such, just going to try and get more exercise done to burn off the seven tons of chocolate I appear to have eaten over the hols, and there's me not being a real chocolate fan anyway. Oh well.

So, less than 6 hours until the end of the year. Whoopee doo. Will 2007 be any better than 2006? Your guess is as good as mine I'd say.

But whatever, have a good evening, whatever you are doing, have an equally good & prosperous new 2007 whatever your endeavours may be.

Happy New Year and all that jazz.

:-)

Technorati Tags: New Year, 2007,Resolutions,DietKevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-63319442061885228462006-12-28T17:41:00.000Z2006-12-28T18:26:39.256ZFun and games continued... (aka We Was Robbed pt II)OK, not so much fun (we keep losing....more on that below), but plenty of games

Saturday 16th December, away game at Guildford Flames, another overtime loss (4-3 in this case). Apparently a good game according to those who travelled, but they could have done better. Overtime sucks if you ask me! ;-)

Sunday 17th December, Phantoms vs. Swindon Wildcats, a 6-3 hammering, with the Phantoms being on the receiving end. The lads just couldn't get it together, bad, inaccurate passing, always moving back rather than forward, seemingly confused game plan. Not a good night really. One to chalk up as experience (of how not to play hockey), to learn from and move forward.

Saturday 23rd December, another away game, this time at the Milton Keynes Lightning and another loss (2-1 this time). A hard fought game if you believe those who went, with the Phantoms' equaliser and MK winner scored in the 3rd period. Both teams had their players back from the Division 1 U20 Worlds (Team GB got a Bronze). So maybe things might settle down again?

(It would appear that the Phantoms are having a bit of a down period right now).

Last night, Wednesday 27th December, home game against Milton Keynes Lightning and a fairly hard fought game, with end to end action and a fair amount of argy-bargy (yes you MKL Number 7, you trouble making toe-rag you, behave yourself you hear?). No score, despite numerous attempts by both teams, well into the 3rd period. Then, disaster, a break caught the Phantoms on the back foot (asleep??) in the 47th minute resulting in a goal for MKL. To give them credit, the Phantoms tried to pick their game up and on the whole succeeded and in the last minute scored the equaliser, only to have it disallowed (Boo, Hiss, Ref, you SUCK). At the final whistle, a 1-0 defeat.

Despite this, it was a fairly good atmosphere (the MKL fans were a very vocal bunch) and it was pretty much a full house. I know its holiday time etc, but even so, the fact that it was full can't be a bad thing for all concerned.

The next game is away at the Scimitars (Sheffield) on the 5th January (the current leaders in the league), followed on the 6th by a home game with the Telford Tigers.

Fingers crossed that 2007 is more productive on the points side of things and some nice healthy wins!

Oh, and before you say anything, we wasn't robbed, we was just playing pants.

Technorati Tags: Peterborough Phantoms, Ice Hockey,NHL,More Dubious HotdogsKevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-65686679807056091612006-12-19T20:03:00.000Z2006-12-19T20:06:45.648ZSpirit of ChristmasI think this sums it up nicely.

The spirit of the season that is.

;-)

Technorati Tags: Internet, Shopping,Ooops!,Save MoneyKevtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3688850.post-41692158192228437832006-12-17T13:23:00.000Z2006-12-17T15:00:08.988ZFun and GamesHello again. I was supposed to be making a post earlier on this week but I just haven't had the opportunity to sit down and do so.

So what was I going to waffle on about this time? Any ideas? Well, of all things it's Ice Hockey (and there you was thinking "oh-no, he's about to rant and rave like normal" - see, I do do other stuff other than moan - but I digress......)

Ice Hockey, something I've been interested in for a long time now. Always made a point of watching the winter Olympics back in the good old days of the USA/Canada/Russia pre-glasnost, 3-way monster sessions and caught any NHL games that appeared on TV over here in the UK. Actually, good old Channel 5 shows a game per week, plus highlights, at 1am on a Wednesday (or there abouts).

Way back when, I used to follow my local team, the Pirates, who ceased to exist back in 2002, and have been replaced by the Phantoms. I saw the Sheffield Steelers play a few times back in 1994-1997 when I was away at Uni (cheap student tickets, those were the days, if I remember rightly it only cost me £2.50p to get in with the various discounts available to me at the time!). Then Hockey kind of faded from my life (blame an extended deployment north of the border for that one) and only recently have I begun to get back into the game (kind of coincided with me having a thing called a "weekend" again, and a bit of cash to spend at this thing called a "weekend") ;-)

Saw my first 2 Phantoms games last weekend on the 9th & 10th of December.

Saturday 9th, (vs. Solihull Barons) was a 9-4 victory for the Phantoms, with the Barons never really looking up to much and was a nice re-introduction to the live game (I think the last time I visited the local ice rink was about 15 or more years ago - how frightening is that??).

Sunday 10th, (vs. Guildford Flames) was a different matter entirely. Phantoms went 1-0 up in the 2nd minute of the 1st period, whereupon the Flames came back in the 11th of the 1st to make it 1-1. For the remainder of the 1st, and indeed the 2nd & 3rd periods, it was end to end, hard hitting stuff with neither team looking like scoring a winner. Until the Flames were awarded a (dubious) penalty which the Pirates net minder saved in exemplary fashion.

So, onto 5 minutes of sudden death overtime (think : golden goal). Again, both teams hammered away at each other, both coming close to scoring on a few occasions. Then, disaster! 12 seconds from time the Flames made a break and 2 seconds later it was over, a 2-1 loss with 10 seconds left on the clock. Nail biting to the end and a great game to watch (I won't make comments about the Ref. he made a series of gaffes against both sides, but we won't go there!) Suffice to say, We Was Robbed. ;-)

And, sadly, it appears that yesterdays away game at the the Flames, ended in a similar manner a 4-3 loss in the 4th minute of overtime.

Lets hope tonight's game is a good one, I'm off to watch and yell for a couple of hours, call the ref names, suggest he needs glasses and hint that he might need to keep up with the rules & game play a bit more (if the need arises). Drink a couple of pints of coffee to stave of any hint of coldness and ponder whether the purchase of a 10 inch long, dubiously coloured hot dog "thing" is worth it from a gastronomic point of view - probably not if my previous ponderings are anything to go by.

So, I'll leave you with this: support you local hockey team, get some backsides on seats and do some shouting. The atmosphere is good, there's plenty of action - both hockey related and some fisticuffs too! If you've never been, you never know, you might enjoy it!

Technorati Tags: Peterborough Phantoms, Ice Hockey,NHL,Dubious HotdogsKev
